AntiOxidants…

In simple words, an antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules…
But it has great significance for life. Insufficient levels of antioxidants, or inhibition of the antioxidant enzymes, cause oxidative stress and may damage or kill cells.
And this is how it happens…
Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals and these free radicals are unstable molecules that take away electrons from other molecules and damage them. This is the cause for many diseases.
Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by donating electrons to free radicals and stabilize them. This prevents free radicals from invading other cells and causing diseases.
Thus Antioxidants play a vital role in anti-aging and keep you young. It also protects you against heart disease, cancer and other diseases. Antioxidants are commonly used as medications to treat various forms of brain injury.
So if you eat fruits and vegetables more then you have lower risk of heart disease and some neurological diseases, and there is evidence that some types of vegetables, and fruits in general, may lower risk against some cancers.
Antioxidants are found in vegetables, fruits, grain cereals, eggs, meat, legumes and nuts. Your body can also produce antioxidant enzymes on its own, which work along with the antioxidants that come with the food you eat.
Some antioxidants such as lycopene and ascorbic acid can be destroyed by long-term storage or prolonged cooking. Thus fruits and veggies should be consumed uncooked and unprocessed to get best results…
Spices are highly rich in antioxidant content among all the food categories.
Drinking 2 glasses of tomato juice a day fulfils your lycopene requirement. Lycopene, a powerful antioxidant is also present in watermelons, pink-grapefruits, apricots and pink-guavas.
Vitamin E is the powerful antioxidant commonly found in nuts, fortified cereals and sweet potatoes and it helps decrease the development of age-related macular degeneration and cataract.
High beta-carotene intake may shoot up the risk for lung cancer in smokers; Increase in vitamin E intake may raise the risks of prostate cancer and a type of stroke.
Some antioxidant sources…
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)-- Fresh Fruits and vegetables
Vitamin E (tocopherols, tocotrienols)-- Vegetable oils
Polyphenolic antioxidants (resveratrol, flavonoids)-- Tea, coffee, soy, fruit, olive oil, chocolate, cinnamon, oregano
Carotenoids (lycopene, carotenes, lutein)-- Fruit, vegetables and eggs.

Stay fit and live long with AntiOxidants...

Gastric proton pump | How does it works?

Proton pump, sounds technical and is responsible for the acid secretion in your stomach but do you know where is it located and how does it works? Hi, this is Sumit, your online pharmacist... Lets talk about proton pumps. Proton pumps are a combination of small structure located on the inner lining of your stomach. This is biological called H+K+ATPase pump. That means Hydrogen Potassium ATPase pump which is an enzyme that acts as a gate for exchange of potassium and hydrogen. Proton pump gets activated on signal from brain or arrival of food in stomach. This signals reach the pump through three chemical messenger which are Histamine, Gastrin and Acetylcholine. Out of these messengers Histamine plays a dominant role in activating the pump. The other two acts indirectly to a greater extent compared to direct action. As soon as the signal reaches the pump it opens the inlet for Potassium ions(K+) from the stomach and outlet for Hydrogen ions(H+) into the stomach. These h

Why PPI is taken before food ?

PPI are most commonly used drugs for gastritis and prevention of acid formation in stomach. But do you know how it works in your body and why one should take these medicines before food...? Hi, this is Sumit your online pharmacist... Let's talk about PPIs. As the name tells these are Proton Pump Inhibitors and the drugs in this class are Omeprazole, Pantoprazole, Esomeprazole, Lansoprazole, Rabeprazole and Dexrabeprazole. These PPIs acts on the proton pump (biologically known as H+K+ATPase) and inhibit the pump which is responsible for the acid secretion in your stomach. When it comes to oral administration of the medicine, it is advised to take before food. This is because PPIs need acidic pH to get activated. This sounds funny, to block acidity it needs acid? Yes, that's true. PPIs work by blocking the proton pump which are present on the inner lining of stomach. These proton pumps start releasing acid when it gets signal either from your brain or when food e

Your personal pregnancy approver

This time when I mention is 2017, getting pregnant is no more a phenomenon described as being gifted by the Almighty. People are very much aware of the fact of sexual reproduction and here I mean those young guys and girls above the age of 13-14 years who are referred to as kids. They are not only aware but are also calculative about the risk and usage of contraceptives. Amongst these smart species, there are many of them who aren't confident with contraception and fail to assure 'safe landing' and get scared when the girl misses her periods. Now, this is when we take the help of science and get a simple test done. I am talking about the pregnancy test kit or HCG test kit. Yes it's simple, yes it's easy, yes it's reliable and yes one can do it without letting anyone know about it. One can simply perform it in the comfort of her washroom. These HCG test kits invented back in 1970's are still very much helpful and reliable in determining pregnancy and
