This time when I mention is 2017, getting pregnant is no more a phenomenon described as being gifted by the Almighty. People are very much aware of the fact of sexual reproduction and here I mean those young guys and girls above the age of 13-14 years who are referred to as kids. They are not only aware but are also calculative about the risk and usage of contraceptives.
Amongst these smart species, there are many of them who aren't confident with contraception and fail to assure 'safe landing' and get scared when the girl misses her periods.
Now, this is when we take the help of science and get a simple test done. I am talking about the pregnancy test kit or HCG test kit.
Yes it's simple, yes it's easy, yes it's reliable and yes one can do it without letting anyone know about it. One can simply perform it in the comfort of her washroom.
These HCG test kits invented back in 1970's are still very much helpful and reliable in determining pregnancy and what it needs is just the morning urine.
There are two types of test kits available in the market, one which is to be held in the urine stream and the other which needs three drops of morning urine to be tested. The latter is more popular and widely available in India.
When we talk about the first type of test kit, one needs to hold the kit with the end marked for the sample under the urine stream and wait for 5-10 minutes keeping the kit on a flat surface.
While the second type of test kit needs to be placed on a flat surface and three drops of urine sample have to be dropped (using the dropper provided with the kit) on the sampling area of the kit and rested for 5-10mins.
Interpretation of result in both the kits is same, easy and discrete. One may get three possible results.
• Negative, identified by one visible line on the result panel.
• Positive, identified by two visible lines on the result panel.
• Invalid test, no visible lines or only one line on the 'T' marked region of the result panel.
These kits are based on the detection of HCG i.e., Human Chorionic Gonadotropin in the urine. HCG is a hormone which is naturally found in the body when a female gets pregnant. This HCG helps in the development of the embryo in the uterus.
The presence of HCG is detected by it's abundance in the body fluids like blood and urine. HCG test kits are widely used compared to blood test for pregnancy as urine being easier to sample without any pain.
So next time you miss your period, get the test done before thinking anything else. The result can also be negative.
